World Cup 2007 fears

Sat, 10 Feb 2007 at 12:53 • Chyetanya Kunte • Filed under Sport

We are getting worried about the possibility that there may be no-show of World Cup Cricket 2007 here in Holland. We are even preparing our minds for that half-hour highlights (if possible at all). It would be such a shame if we cannot watch it live, considering our love for the game. We thoroughly enjoyed the last contest.

Is it time to turn to the web? I don’t know, at least as yet. I still have faith in the conventional media — the television. Assuming the worst possible scenario, if we were to catch a live webcast (Is there such a thing planned? Does anyone have this kind of info?), we could hook-it up to our TV. Even if it does not work that way, we would be quite happy to put this machine on the kitchen counter.

Update: We called up our Cable television provider and they said they don’t provide hook-up to ARY Digital, the only broadcaster in the country. That’s bad news.

Plan B — Sneha has dug-up some info about P2P internet TV — Sopcast. If you have any others in Europe or the US (or just anywhere), we are all ears. I could even put my 20Mbps fat pipe to some community use. I am also willing to run a list for all those cricket fans, who might be in a fix like we are in now.

The TVU player served me well during the Football WC so I guess they might have something for cricket as well. There are plenty of streaming sites these days so I am sure they’ll try to include cricket as well.

For plan B to work, there should be someone who is ready to stream the feed to the internet. I have used p2p player and it works like a charm provide there are enough(??) user online.
I doubt if someone in US/INDIA/UK or any other countries pipe there digital stream to internet over P2P player..

    I hope someone does it…..

Yes, I am aware of that. Hence my pledge (if in case I get conventional connection), I’ll put it on tap, as I said earlier:

I could even put my 20Mbps fat pipe to some community use.

I have been looking into this as I am in Malta and the cable company here isn’t carrying it either. Two places online that are streaming it for a cost http://cricketon.tv/ for $15 per match or $149 for the lot. Or http://www.willow.tv/ at $200 for all games. I found willowtv test stream much faster but they are both a bit to expensive if you ask me. If I can’t find anything better I thing I will splash out for a satellite system and purchase a 2 month subscription for 100 euro at from http://www.arydigital.tv/ who are carrying the cricket. But would love to find a p2p streaming system as well but unfortunately for me Malta internet sucks so how reliable would it be?

Looking into it further these sites say they are going to have links to live feeds.

I am going the satellite route myself as will be gutted if I miss the important matches because my internet connection sucks.

We might go the satellite way too, thanks for your inputs, BB.
