Windows XP SP2
We’ve been hearing a lot recently about Windows XP’s Service Pack 2—both good and bad. Good: because it does make your PC safer (here’s a full feature list; my favorite, though, is the SP2’s Wireless Configuration Tools). Bad: because reports on the internet and newsgroups kept mentioning that for some people, SP2 was creating a lot of problems and there was plenty of caution to heed.
Instead of waiting for the download to start itself on, I ordered for a CD which promptly came within about 2-weeks time. How nice! Microsoft shipped me a free CD (which, I’d like to add, came in a perfect condition). If you guys are waiting for the downloads to begin, don’t. Order a CD. That way, you have both your original install disc as well as all the updates (hell, you can even converge them together to have a final updated disc if you like).
The updates went uneventful as I sat down to install it over my existing setup this Sunday afternoon. It did replace a hell-lot of files and took close to an hour before it rebooted. I had no install problems on my Presario; I also noticed that my machine now runs a wee-bit faster than before. It instantly connected to my D-Link wireless router, recognized my (Rijndael) encrypted setup and I was using my WiFi connection as before. The wireless center is cool and even showed me a couple more wireless signals that I failed to catch earlier in my neighborhood =). I did get a warning from SP2’s security center that I didn’t have an antivirus software installed. That doesn’t bother me since I’ve lived without an antivirus software this long without a single infection (we don’t blind-click on attachments =). I promptly turned that warning off in the settings so I don’t see that red-armor shield again in my systray.
So, another no-problem-SP2-upgrade it was. Now, I’ve to get back to making that custom-updated disc.

Thanks for that link. Even, I have now ordered a free copy of SP-2 for my home PC
