Tuk-tuks in Holland
Lack of a cheap mode of personal transport to go around the city, with the exception of trams, was painfully obvious to us when we first arrived here in Holland late last year.
Between the very expensive taxis and the not-everywhere-commuter trams, Tuk-tuks neatly fill this wide mobility gap for citizens and tourists alike. With noticeable colors, they turn heads wherever they go. They are cheap, they are fun and they are very Thai.
We noticed them in the city for the first time yesterday.

Aren’t tuk-tuk’s themselves an import from India? Elsewhere in South East Asia (Jakarta, for instance) they are called bajajs!

, but the tuk-tuks I took around in Thailand were a bit different from the auto-rickshaws we see in our Indian towns. They were longer, wider and sometimes multiple passenger seats in the back. To me, they appeared to draw more from their oriental influences. Those are the ones I see here.
Interestingly, non-native friends and colleagues who have visited India, tend to address our autorickshaws as tuk-tuks! I find that amusing; it could be that tuk-tuk sounds and registers better than an auto-rickshaw.

BTW me not like the pink hyperlinks…esp.on a gray background. Diff.on the eyes.

, hoping it looks more like ‘Gulaal’ sprinkle this festive season.
