Omit these in your print design

Fri, 25 May 2007 at 16:27 • Chyetanya Kunte • Filed under Design

Often, people design their websites in full graphical glory, and then, allow it to go to print unfortunately, wasting end-user’s money in paper and ink. If you have a website and if you publish things that are worth printing for your (or their) reference, do yourself (and them) a favour. Turn these off in print:

  • All forms — search, comment, menus. They are only meant for online interaction.
  • All images (with the exception of those that relate to an article and your barebones site logo).
  • All advertisements on your site.

How do you do it? — List all those elements related to the above (IDs and classes) in your print stylesheet, and set them to display:none;.
