Movabletype disappoints
I am not against paid software. I would even have considered buying Movabletype personal edition if they had just released an unlimited version for a sum. Instead, there are different versions of the same software but with different lengths of chains for cuffing you. As Mena says in her corporate blog:
We’re big on honor at Six Apart. We haven’t built in any nagware for license violations or phone home mechanisms. We trust our users’ good judgment and intentions. We intend to use our good judgment in being flexible about enforcing these limits.
If she’s taking a dig at Microsoft, it’s not even on the same turf. I’m not a MS sympathizer, but atleast a paid software version by Microsoft does not clamp extensive features - take the example of XP Home v/s XP Pro (I’m an XP Home user, btw).
While I have no choice but to stay with Movabletype 2.661 (which Movabletype is generously still allowing people to download), I just wish they could re-think on the licensing of paid (unlimited) MT version rather than coming up with so many-none-too-complete-versions.
