Internet safety for kids

Ed-Tech Insider is running a post about internet safety for kids. Some good links there on the topic.

You need to make the parents aware, as they often know far less about the Internet than their children and have no idea what they are putting online.

Kids are smarter. They tend to pick-up stuff a lot faster than parents. One of the best ways I can think of is rationing the time allotted for internet activity for your kids. It is during longer idle times, the just browsing kind, that they are more likely to stumble upon the ugly content.

this post reminds me to a tragedy of a teenage weblogger who has added a very detail information on her weblog, got followed and killed by a stranger who first has found her location from her own weblog :-S imho, computer & internet educ for parents who don’t have any idea about it is needed [and it's indeed true, kids are smarter, since I've seen parents who don't even know how to send email]. A school in US has banned blogging a year back, but I forgot the link.
