I’m really impressed with WordPress. While it still does not contain the punch as that of Movabletype yet, a GPL version is what I’m going to be using henceforth. The installation took less than 2-minutes flat including the custom skin (from Alex King) and importing all entries with their comments from Movabletype.
I saw a post regarding WordPress setup info on Windows XP in WP’s Wiki, so I thought I’d share these with those unwilling to use a large server software like Apache and it’s detailed install routine on a localhost. My setup on a Windows 2000 used these:
- Abyss webserver 1.2+, by Aprelium - a very fast and extremely lean (PHP and Perl supporting) server software.
- ActiveState’s ActivePerl 5.8+
- PHP 4.3.6 (bare install without any Pear extensions)
- MySQL 4.1
This is one’s good! Definitely a keeper.
