In Internet Explorer 7

I downloaded the Beta 2 Preview version of Internet Explorer to check my site for possible mis-renderings. I’m pleasantly surprised to note that the 3 pixel bug is gone. That was the only thing I remember having as an issue with my present theme, and no I had not bothered to work around (hack) it. Now, I needn’t bother. It gets fixed automatically. The dotted line of my blockquote is now actually rendered dotted and not dashed. Nice (or should I say, it’s about time it did). Seems like my site is IE7 compatible already. But then, there were almost no hacks in my CSS. Your mileage may vary. Also, there’s still this problem where my preview window and image upload box is jumping out of bounds. (I’m not sure who is the culprit here: WordPress interface or Internet Explorer 7. I expect the latter, because the same interface works fine in Firefox.)

First impressions: IE resembles Opera so much. Why? Or I ask myself why not? The first thing I’m expecting from a typical user is chaos: where are my buttons, where are my menus? I felt this inspite of being used to using Opera. Give it a minute to let the idea of a simple interface wash over you, and I’m like oh yes, this is a nice interface.

IE 7 rendered my favicon in the first instance. The built-in feed rendering is really nice.

Good job, IE team. I really like their down to earth approach asking people in a nice way:

It’s a difficult challenge to keep compatibility with sites and apps but break compatibility for standards compliance, and we would appreciate you checking your sites and making necessary changes where you’ve hacked in non-standard stuff for IE in the past. We would particularly like detailed feedback on the work we’re doing in this area.

I guess this is the beginning of the realization that building a browser is never a one-time job, but is a work in progress as we move in time.
