Hotmail could have been today’s GMail

The last time I truly enjoyed writing my e-mail was, I think, way back in 1996 when I got my first ever email account on, what else, Hotmail. I was so much in love with the original animated Hotmail logo (just look at it, it is so cool, even now!). It was a brand name that captivated millions of us. Hotmail was a hit. I’m having such a time now with GMail. After seven years. With so much of brain power available, Microsoft could have easily channelled this service to the next-gen app in messaging (like Google is doing it with GMail—so many cool features!)—but instead, it chose to burden it with it’s own services.
No matter how far the computing world goes, the basic aspects of communication will rarely change. We all know that Microsoft is a company that has perfected others’ innovations and become a market leader rather than the inventing and creating something on their own that has rarely become a hit. Microsoft can still make a full turn around and do a lets-kick-this-pig act and pump-up Hotmail to its new glorious heights (and if possible, bring back that original logo!). It remains to be seen how far or rather if at all they’ll go any miles doing it.
