Ghost in the machine?
About a year ago, I mentioned this in one of my posts:
..my Compaq Presario 17XL461 notebook (bought in 2001) developed a flaw in its LCD screen blanking out a pixel thin line running from top of the screen to the bottom erasing out whatever crosses its path. While it does not hinder my work, I get an eerie sense of working on a flawed machine (however small flaw that may be).
Over the year, I grew so much used to it that I almost forgot it existed. That until it vanished completely. No seriously, it vanished! As a matter of fact I don’t even know when this happened. I was just resizing a window to clear off that blank line (that I was so much used to) so I could read when I actually noticed that it wasn’t there at all.
Now, I’m thinking of ways to comprehend this fact: how could this have happened? How can an LCD flaw correct itself? Could it be Sneha’s toilet sessions where she takes the machine (instead of taking a magazine) these days =), could it be the SP2 patching (I’ve patched display drivers before, so I seriously doubt it) or could it be my kiddo, who takes the machine on a weekend spin to run Disney stuff?
Whatever it is, it’s good to be using the screen as if nothing had ever happened, and that’s all it matters.
I have a ghostly travelling white pixel on my display screen too…its not to be seen lately but surfaces occassionally…creepy tech, eh?
