Note: The following works with Firefox versions prior to 2.0. For versions 2.0 and above, which is based on OpenSearch, please see this update.

ckunte.com search plugin for Firefox

I was bored. I hated loading my site or typing full URI in the address bar just to search something of reference on my site. And so, I created a Firefox search plugin for my site.

Search bar in Firefox

Howto create a plugin for your site, if you often dig your old entries for references:

  • Here’s the simple code.
  • Just replace ckunte.com with yours in .src file (editable in a plain text editor).
  • Choose an image of 16 pixels by 16 pixels (or convert your favicon to an image of size 16 x 16 pixels). Both source filename and icon image file name should be the same, except for the file extensions (.src for source file, and image file can be .gif, .png, .jpg or whatever your image format is).
  • Park the .src file and your image icon file in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins. (You could also park these under your local user profile folder of Documents and Settings in Application Data, if you’re on a shared computer.)

And you’re done. Start searching using your own site search plugin in Firefox.
