Feed radio wanted

Thu, 26 Jan 2006 at 04:27 • Chyetanya Kunte • Filed under Blog, Podcasting

We stare at the computer monitor for some 10 hours at a stretch. A lot of us like to listen, and don’t have the time to read. We really want to give our eyes some rest. That said, we also like to keep ourselves updated. We’d like to ‘listen’ to the blogs in bed. We don’t really mind if the sound is machine generated, for it is not as important as the rest our eyes direly need.

I wish companies like Odeo could machine generate the audio from the feeds like Talkr does. If it did, I’d drop my feed reader any time for a machine generated podcast of my selection of blogs and blog posts. I’m all for ‘real voice’ podcasts, it’s just that it’s a bigger hassle than writing a post for most of us (not technically, but presentation wise, we don’t want to sound dull and tired, but rather chirpy and enthusiastic). And if you have a heavy day job, then you can just forget about it.

If Odeo, or any podcasting company, could take my blog feed and generate a podcast I can subscribe to and listen to like a feed-radio, then I’m ready to drop my feed reader today.

    Hi Chetan,

If I recall correctly, you were an early Talkr Partners adopter — thanks for the post! (In fact, I think Talkr.com still links to your homepage.)

Talkr currently lets you convert any three feeds to audio for free, and you can convert others for a small monthly subscription fee. Unless I misunderstand, you should be able to register those feeds with Odeo (or another podcatching app) and get the functionality you’re looking for.

If, in fact, I _am_ misunderstanding, I’d be interested in getting a better sense of what you’re looking for.

    Thanks,
    Chris
