Diwali get-together

Believe it or not, Kuala Lumpur has a healthy dose of Indian expatriates. Indians here work in a variety of industries: oil and gas, infotech, medicine and health care and many others. Those that cannot go back—to India during the Diwali holidays—find solace in celebrating together and celebrating in groups. Good sweets are greatly in demand and are sorely missed. Thanks to the home made sweets and Haldiram, we’re not totally deprived of them. Firecrackers are officially banned here, but we still manage to buy some for the joy of our little ones, making them hold—and shiver to the light of—that sparkle stick or that rocket that bursts stars at the end of its flight.

And when Nina and Praveen organize a diwali get-together in Palm Court, we rarely miss. The show and program, as always, starts with a good dose of performing arts, and ends with a mouthwatering dinner and a game of housie.

Sneha and I along with the kids had a wonderful time today celebrating Diwali with our compatriot friends. It is during occasions like these that we miss India a little less.
