Temple in Den Helder

Mon, 26 Mar 2007 at 20:38 • Chyetanya Kunte • Filed under Holland, Trips

Den Helder is located on the northern-most tip of Holland. But, that wasn’t the reason we went there on a bright Sunday morning. Our Indian friends invited us to go along with them to visit a Ganesh temple there.

Den Helder seems to have an inquisitive history, the name which is derived from the phrase “Gate to Hell” interests me the most. Since we didn’t take any pictures ourselves while there, let me just link to some interesting pictures. Established by Sri Lankan tamilians, this temple is enclosed by a building that looks nothing like a place of worship1 from outside.

It was, overall, an interesting experience.

  1. Sneha found out that this was done to prevent some sort of hooliganism by miscreants, not sure though whether this is a Dutch Government / Municipality directive or if it is only a guideline. []
