Confessions of an economic hit man

A colleague of mine tipped me about this awesome book during a weekend meet today.

Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and other foreign “aid” organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet’s natural resources. Their tools included fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is a “whistle-blower’s” account of the exploitation or neocolonialization of Third World countries by a corporatocracy (consisting of corporations, banks, and the US government) It was on the New York Times bestseller list for seven weeks.

Just a couple of minutes of narration about this from my colleague got me riveted to my seat. I’m going to go hunt for this book.

Trust me it is an incredible book, to read, I just could not put it down, once started. It is pretty grose to know that US commits these atrocities and puts other nations into a spot(for eg.. India) on trivial matters.

Jayanth: Thanks for the suggestion. It reinforces my assumption on what it’s probably like.
