With morning rush and evening slogs, it’s rarely possible on weekdays for a little indulgence—be it cycling, running, or letting your frisbee go flying—with kids.

Our regular haunt for flying frisbees is the open football field—a few hundred yards from our place. It’s technically possible to play in the backyard, and we often do, except that we can’t let that plastic disc go flying as high as we’d much like it to. And we’ve already lost one good frisbee, and nearly another to the thick foliage and an inaccessible canal flowing behind our fence.

I dragged myself from bed early this morning, just so I could keep my promise. We arrived at the football field only to be dismayed—to see it soaked damp, and muddy from the morning dew and last evening’s game of cricket.

We played a just bit before the sandy, muddy frisbee began hurting our cold numb hands, and soiling our clothes. In the end, we quit. Lesson learnt: never go on a damp, muddy Sunday morning for flying frisbees.

Both our children planted a Sunflower plant each in our backyard. Aaryana’s plant was the first to flower—lifting its face-up to the Sun at dawn, and going into a sulk at dusk.

And just when we were wondering whatever happened to Saanvi’s plant, it flowered not one but three! Now our knowledge of Sunflowers isn’t really tops, but we always thought it’s typically one flower per plant. What gives?

In my time, learning Devanagari this way would have been thought weird, but this is exactly how my eight-year old is.

One of the fun things kids learn these days in their art class is how they are made to appreciate an artist’s work, by not just observing, but by trying to reproduce their work.

Today was Aaryana’s last day in Year 3¹, and she brought home all the works she did as part of her course work. The one that caught my eye, in particular, was her rendition of L.S. Lowry’s 1955 classic.²

Isn’t it gorgeous?

2. As part of her learning about noted artists, Aaryana actually knows quite a bit about L.S. Lowry.

The four year old goo-goo-gaa-gaas—wearing smashing colors, and native costumes—parading a goofy-smiley walk isn’t the only fun part, we caught a bit of performance too. And they even played a Lucky Ali number!
