BBC goes open source

Fri, 13 May 2005 at 15:30 • Chetan • Filed under Technology

BBC launches APIs. This is awesomely cool. This comes in the wake of the recent news about the Beeb opening up its content more so that people could use news stories or headlines on their own sites via RSS.

backstage.bbc.co.uk is the BBC’s new developer network, providing content feeds for anyone to build with. Alternatively, share your ideas on new ways to use BBC content. This is your BBC. We want to help you play.

Update: Slashdotters wonder could a commercial broadcaster ever take a step like this? BBC shakes out the mainstream media stature with this one, thus becoming the news media of the people for the people. Way to go, BBC.
